Da haben Sie völlig Recht.

Sie können sich bestenfalls einen Überblick verschaffen, und gleich anfangen einen weiteren Berlinbesuch zu planen. Für äußerst fleißige Touristen ist an einem Wochenende aber dennoch eine Menge zu „schaffen“.

Mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln, wie S-Bahn, U-Bahn oder Bus, erreichen Sie von unserer Ferienwohnung aus in kurzer Zeit die Stadtmitte, z.B. den Bahnhof Zoo / Kurfürstendamm / Alexanderplatz / Potsdamer Platz. Von dort aus empfiehlt es sich eine Stadtrundfahrt zu unternehmen. Sie erhalten hierbei die besten Informationen und geschichtlichen Hintergründe von z.B.:

Der „lange Lulatsch“ ist das Wahrzeichen Berlins, neben dem Berliner Bären. Er ist ein Architektonisches Meisterwerk aus Stahl. Das Verhältnis seiner Grundfläche zur Höhe ist normalerweise nur mit Betonbauten möglich. Wer mit dem Auto anreist und über die legendäre Avus in Richtung Berlin Zentrum fährt, wird den „langen Lulatsch“ nicht übersehen können.

Sie wird „Gold Else“ genannt, “weil se eben mit echtem Jold verziert is”. Auf der Straße des 17. Juni ist sie der Blickfang. Im Hintergrund befindet sich das Brandenburger Tor.

Der „hohle Zahn“ steht als Mahnmal am Kurfürsten Damm auch Ku` Damm genannt. Sie wurde im zweiten Weltkrieg zerbombt und nicht wieder instand gesetzt.

Platz der Luftbrücke

Die original „Rosinenbomber“, die Berlin mit nötigen Nahrungsmitteln und Heizkohle zur Zeit der Blockade versorgten, sind am Platz der Luftbrücke am Flughafen Tempelhof zu besichtigen. Auch dort steht ein Mahnmal, „Hungerkralle“ genannt, zur Erinnerung an die Luftbrücke.

Gail Halverson, ein US Pilot der Berliner Flugbrücke trug maßgeblich zum Ausdruck „Rosinenbomber“ bei. Kurz vor der Landung in Berlin warf er kleine Naschereien, die an Taschentüchern befestigt waren, über Berlin ab. Diese Aktion hatte Vorbildfunktion und die gesamte Air-Force folgte seinem Beispiel bald. In Deutschland stationierte US Soldaten ließen sich von Ihren Familien Süßigkeiten und Kaugummis nach Deutschland schicken, um sie dann über Berlin abzuwerfen.

Die Kinder wussten bald einzuschätzen in welchem der insgesamt 2,7 Mio Anflügen Ihr „Candy-Pilot“ Gail Halverson saß. Augenzeugen berichteten davon, dass er beim Landeanflug immer mit den Flügeln seines Flugzeuges wackelte.

Brandenburger Tor

1806 wurde Berlin von den Truppen Napoleons besetzt. Als sich die Armee 1808 wieder aus Berlin zurückzog, nahmen sie die Quadriga mit nach Frankreich um sie zu Ehren Napoleons in den Triumphbogen einzubauen.
Diese Maßnahme brachte Napoleon in Berlin den Spitznamen "Pferdedieb" ein. Allerdings kam die Quadriga schon 1814 wieder zurück nach Berlin.

Bei schönem Wetter können Sie Stadtrundfahrten außerdem in Form einer Kanalfahrt per Dampfer unternehmen. Wussten Sie schon, dass Berlin mehr Brücken hat als Venedig?

Sehr zu empfehlen ist hier eine so genannte „Brückenfahrt“ der Stern u. Kreisschifffahrt mit fachkundiger Moderation über Land, Leute, lustiges und geschichtliches.

Auch der Berliner Zoo mit dem angegliederten Aquarium ist immer ein Erlebnis. Er ist der artenreichste Zoo der Welt; so zumindest ist es der Webseite des Zoologischen Gartens zu entnehmen.

Zahlreiche Museen, Theater, Kinos und Ausstellungen biete eine Menge mehr an Freizeitgestaltung. Hier eine kleine Auswahl.

Gail Halverson, the US pilot of the Berlin flight bridge decisively contributed to the expression "raisin bomber". Shortly before the landing in Berlin he threw down small sweets which were fastened to handkerchiefs over Berlin. This action had model function and the whole Air-Force soon followed his example. In Germany the stationed US of soldier sweets and chewing gums can be sent from their families to Germany to throw down them then over Berlin.
